In the foothills of the West Pennine Moors, Bolton is between Manchester (10 miles (16 km) south-east), Blackburn, Wigan, Bury and Salford. The Office for National Statistics measurements place Bolton as the number one happy place in Greater Manchester. From 2022 to 2023, Bolton’s average happiness scale was at 7.6, up 0.1 from the previous year (7.5).
